Reinier Wijnstra studeerde maritieme techniek in Delft, en is sinds 2002 aan EP&C verbonden als octrooigemachtigde. Daarvoor verrichtte hij haalbaarheidsstudies bij een ingenieursbureau, was hij adviseur (Rijkswaterstaat), managementconsultant (KPMG) en salesmanager (Yachting Consult). Als gastdocent doceert hij het vak Octrooi en geeft lezingen. Hij is lid van de werkgroep octrooien van de UNION of European Practitioners in Intellectual Property.

Reinier is een rustige en begripvolle luisteraar die graag de diepte in gaat. “Om de essentie van een uitvinding te begrijpen moet je altijd terug naar het begin. Iedere keuze die er gemaakt is probeer ik boven water te halen. Alleen dan kun je alle zijwegen effectief afsluiten voor mogelijke concurrenten. En alleen dan kun je er achter komen dat een uitvinding veel breder is dan je cliënt in eerste instantie dacht.”

Career:

Reinier Wijnstra studied maritime engineering in Delft, the Netherlands, and has been a patent attorney with EP&C since 2002. Previously, he conducted feasibility studies for an engineering firm, as well as functioned as an adviser (Department of Public Works), a management consultant (KPMG) and a sales manager (Yachting Consult). He is also a visiting lecturer on Patent. He is a member of the Patents Committee of the UNION of European Practitioners in Intellectual Property.

Reinier is a composed and astute listener who likes thorough exploration. “By working together during the developmental stages, we get the most out of an idea. I try to unearth every choice that has been made in order to effectively shut down any side roads for potential competitors. Only then can you discover whether an invention is much broader than your client initially thought.”
