Marcel Kortekaas, M.Sc. Dutch and European Patent Attorney EP&C - Rijswijk

Marcel Kortekaas studeerde Scheikunde in Groningen, en is sinds 2007 aan EP&C verbonden als octrooigemachtigde. Daarvoor werkte hij als octrooigemachtigde bij Shell en bij het Amerikaanse Kraton Polymers, waar hij de octrooiafdeling opzette. Marcel is lid van de Licensing Executives Society, en als cursusleider aan het Dutch Polymer Institute doceert hij het vak Octrooirecht en Licenties.

Marcel is een strategisch en volhardend onderhandelaar met een nieuwsgierige ondernemersgeest. “Als octrooigemachtigde werk je op het snijvlak van researchstrategie, businessstrategie en ip-strategie. Dat moet je altijd voor ogen houden, of je nu adviseert of procedeert. Je moet net zo lang puzzelen tot je de enige juiste manier hebt gevonden om je doel te bereiken. En dat doel is een succesvol product. Want dat is waar jij en je cliënt het uiteindelijk allemaal voor doen.”

Career:

Marcel Kortekaas studied chemistry in Groningen, the Netherlands, and has been a patent attorney with EP&C since 2007. Previously, he worked as a patent attorney for Shell and the American firm Kraton Polymers, where he set up the patent department. Marcel is a member of the Licensing Executives Society and teaches Patent Law and Licenses at the Dutch Polymer Institute.

Marcel is a strategic and persistent negotiator with a curious entrepreneurial spirit. “As a patent attorney you work on the edge of research strategy, business strategy and ip-strategy. You always have to be aware of this, whether you are advising or litigating. You have to keep puzzling until you’ve found the only true way to achieve your goal. And that goal is a successful product. Because that is what you and your client are doing it for.”
