Marc van der Velden studeerde Werktuigbouwkunde aan de Technische Universiteit in Delft, volgde de eerstegraads lerarenopleiding Natuurkunde en deed promotieonderzoek. Sinds 2008 is hij aan EP&C verbonden als octrooigemachtigde.

Marc kan met zijn lerarenachtergrond helder de wereld van het octrooi inzichtelijk maken. En tegelijkertijd goed luisteren naar wat eigenlijk het échte probleem is waarvoor de uitvinding een oplossing biedt. Hij zoekt de interactie op. “Ook al gaat het over producten, uiteindelijk draait het om contact met mensen. Als octrooigemachtigde adviseer je de uitvinder, maar werk je ook mét de uitvinder. Je wordt als het ware onderdeel van zijn werk. Door elkaar te inspireren, stapelt oplossing zich op oplossing en wordt het product beter. De bescherming die het product vervolgens kan krijgen, smeden we met woorden. Dankzij scherpe bewoordingen wordt een octrooi een perfect aanvals- en verdedigingswapen.”

Career:

Marc van der Velden studied Mechanical Engineering at the Delft University of Technology, earned a masters degree in physics education, and carried out doctoral research. He has been linked to EP&C as a patent attorney since 2008.

Marc can provide insight into the patent world with his education background. At the same time, he can listen carefully to discover what is actually the real problem for which an invention offers a solution. He seeks the interaction. “Although it is about products, eventually, contact with people is what it is all about. As a patent attorney you give the inventor advice, but you also work together with the inventor. You could say that you become a part of his work. Solutions pile up by inspiring each other which, in turn, improves the product. We forge with words the protection that the product subsequently can be given. Thanks to a carefully chosen wording, a patent becomes the perfect offensive and defensive weapon.”
