Jeroen Fluit studeerde Natuurwetenschappen aan de Universiteit Utrecht. Tijdens zijn afstuderen liep hij stage bij de octrooiafdeling van Shell en het Europees Octrooibureau in München. Sinds 2007 is hij aan EP&C verbonden als octrooigemachtigde. Daarvoor werkte hij als octrooigemachtigde bij ASML, onder meer aan rechtszaken in Japan, Korea en de Verenigde Staten.

Jeroen is flexibel, denkt graag mee met de cliënt, maar denkt nog liever verder. “Uitvinders vragen zich niet altijd af of hun idee inbreuk maakt op een octrooi van een derde, terwijl dit vaak minstens zo belangrijk is als het aanvragen van een octrooi. Daarnaast zijn er echter maar weinig écht unieke ideeën, waardoor je als octrooigemachtigde al je skills moet aanspreken om vaak tóch een goede bescherming te realiseren. Is dat eenmaal gebeurd, dan mag de cliënt niet op zijn lauweren rusten. Je moet een goede octrooistrategie hanteren, waarmee je je concurrenten constant en nauwlettend in de gaten houdt of ze geen inbreuk maken op je octrooi.”

Career:

Jeroen Fluit studied natural science at the University of Utrecht, the Netherlands, and joined EP&C as a patent agent in 2007. Previously, he worked as a patent agent at ASML, where he saw to lawsuits in Japan, Korea and the US. He also gained experience in the patent department of Shell and at the European Patent Agency in Munich.

Jeroen is flexible and likes to think along with the client as well as push beyond the client’s ideas and expectations. "Inventors don't always ask themselves whether their idea infringes on a third party’s patent, which is often equally if not more important than applying for the patent itself. Aside from that, there are a lot of really unique ideas out there, and I enjoy using my skills as a patent agent to obtain watertight protection for them. And once that’s been done a client cannot rest on his laurels; he needs to create a solid patent strategy that closely monitors potential patent infringement by his competitors.’
