Tom Beetz is afgestudeerd als organisch chemicus aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam en gepromoveerd aan de Universiteit van Groningen. Hij is Nederlands en Europees octrooigemachtigde. Hij is afkomstig van Akzo Nobel waar hij sinds 1988 als octrooigemachtigde heeft gewerkt. In 2001 is hij in dienst getreden bij De Vries & Metman. Tevens is hij is docent voor de opleiding voor Nederlandse en Europese octrooigemachtigden en docent bij de cursus permanente educatie voor octrooigemachtigden.

Hij is actief op het gebied van de chemie. In het bijzonder strekt zijn expertise zich uit tot farmaceutische producten en medicijnen, polymeren, harsen, coatings, vezels, spintechnologie, anorganische chemie, silica/silicaten, katalysatoren.

Hij heeft voorts uitgebreide ervaring met octrooirechtzaken en opposities bij het Europees Octrooibureau.

Tom Beetz is a chemist and an experienced Dutch and European Patent Attorney. He graduated in organic chemistry at the University of Amsterdam, which was followed by a Ph.D. degree from the University of Groningen. He is Dutch and European Patent Attorney. He was formerly employed from at Akzo Nobel where he functioned as patent attorney since 1988. He joined De Vries & Metman in 2001. Tom is also a teacher for trainees for their Dutch and European qualifying examinations, and he is a lecturer of the course Permanent Education for patent attorneys.

Tom is active in the field of chemistry. In particular he has specialized in polymers, resins, coatings, fibers, spin technology, inorganic chemistry, silica/silicates, catalysts, pharmaceutics and pharmacology.

Tom gained extensive experience in patent litigation and oppositions before the European Patent Office.
